New Fiat Tipo Coming To Australia?

New Fiat Tipo Coming To Australia?
Pete Accini

The new Fiat Tipo which has recently been launched in Turkey as the Aegea may be heading down under.

Fiat Australia had previously stated that it would consider adding the Tipo to its lineup if a right hand drive version became available. The announcement that Fiat UK have now confirmed that the new model will be available in Britain seems to clear the way for Aussie imports. Of course the weak Australian dollar might prove to be a bigger stumbling block.

What Will The Range Look Like?

In Europe the new Tipo will be available as sedan, hatch and wagon. The UK market is likely to forego the booted sedan in favour of the more practical five door variations. We know that Aussies love their sedans so it’s possible that Fiat Australia would not follow the UK importers and include the sedan variant for out market.

What Should We Expect In The Engine Department?

The new Tipo will be available with two petrol engines and two diesels. The specs of these mills are likely to be 69kW 1.4 litre and 79kW 1.6 litre for the petrol and 69kW 1.3 litre and 87kW 1.6 litre for the diesels.

How Well Equipped Will The New Tipo Be?

In terms of equipment the new Tipo will come Fiat’s Uconnect infotainment system, featuring a five inch colour touchscreen interface, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and aux inputs. TomTom satellite navigation and a rear view camera will be optional extras.

How much will it cost?

Prices for the new Tipo haven’t been announced but in the UK the range is expected to start  at around £15,000 which currently equates to a whopping $32k,approximately. Something would have to be done about that to make the new Tipo competitive against keenly priced small hatches and sedans such as the Mazda 3 and VW Golf/Jetta.
